Preventive Diplomacy

Sustainable security and stability demands that we work to prevent conflicts before they begin.

Our leading initiative in this area is the International Task Force on Preventive Diplomacy. The Task Force devises practical mechanisms  to generate domestic and international political will to shorten the time  between early warning and effective early action to prevent violent conflict.

Our preventive diplomacy efforts work to reframe conventional wisdom on security and development policy and create diplomatic  alternatives to violence that are both sustainable and cost effective.

We use our unique position as a trusted and unbiased convener to quickly respond to potentially explosive international issues that official channels are unwilling or unable to. We provide an alternative means  of facilitation and communication to complement international and regional  processes and make timely interventions when official efforts fail.

EWI works with the highest levels of government, military, business, NGOs and with parliamentarians around the world to institutionalize  channels of communication that can identify potential points of conflict and  defuse them before they erupt.
